The Caribbean Maritime University’s Office of Institutional Research and Business Intelligence (OIRBI), located in the Office of the President, is dedicated to upholding data integrity and utilizing data to inform institutional planning, policy formation, and decision-making processes. OIRBI ensures compliance with accreditation and quality assurance standards and serves as a trustworthy steward of institutional data.
OIRBI is an advisory unit that provides data-driven guidance, advice, and technical support to the Office of the President in achieving the university’s Stability, Growth and Innovation (SGI) Strategy. The team at OIRBI conducts research, analyses trends, and presents recommendations to inform decision-making at the highest levels of the university administration. By leveraging data and evidence-based practices, OIRBI works closely with the Office of the President to make informed decisions that support the institution’s mission and strategic goals. Additionally, OIRBI collaborates with other departments and stakeholders across the university to ensure that data collection and analysis efforts are aligned with the university's overall mission, vision, and core values. OIRBI’s team of experts utilizes advanced research methodologies and modern technologies to ensure that the guidance given is accurate, reliable, and up-to-date. The manager of the Office of Institutional Research and Business Intelligence plays a crucial role in overseeing the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data to support strategic planning and decision-making at the Caribbean Maritime University. This individual reports directly to the University President and is responsible for coordinating data collection efforts, managing databases, conducting data analysis, and producing reports to provide insights into student enrollment, retention rates, academic performance, and other key metrics. The manager also collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to identify data needs, develop research projects, and implement data-driven solutions to improve institutional effectiveness and efficiency. Additionally, the manager ensures that data privacy and security protocols are followed to protect sensitive information and uphold ethical standards in data management practices.
The Research Officer within the Office of Institutional Research and Business Intelligence (OIRBI) provided full support to the Manager by contributing to the advancement of the CMU's overarching mission, vision, and strategic objectives. This is achieved through the provision of impartial, systematic, precise, unbiased, and prompt data and comprehensive analytical reports pertaining to the overall success of the Institution. These insights are intended for dissemination to the Office of the President and other key executive stakeholders within the university.
Furthermore, the Research Officer ensures that all data collected and reported is of the highest quality and integrity. This includes conducting data validation, cleaning, and verification processes to ensure the information's accuracy and reliability. Additionally, the Research Officer stays current on best practices in research methodologies and data analysis techniques to continuously improve the quality of the reports and insights produced.
The OIRBI team also provides training and support to various stakeholders across the university to promote data literacy and help them make data-informed decisions. By leveraging data-driven insights, the Caribbean Maritime University can better understand its students, faculty, and staff, identify areas for improvement, and ultimately achieve its mission of providing high-quality education and research in the maritime, logistics, engineering, and security industries.
Core Functions
Compliance and Reporting - Report institutional data on behalf of the university to government agencies, accreditation bodies, and other external constituents.
Data and Analysis - Collect, analyze, interpret, and report data and information for internal and external requests.
Research - Support the research and evaluation of College-wide efforts on student success. Plan and implement research activities in support of critical institutional priorities. Collect and analyze peer data for benchmarking and comparative studies.
Transparency - Develop and maintain university-wide dashboards and visualizations to disseminate key metrics and improve access to institutional data for executive leadership and the university community.
Collaboration - Serve as internal advisors and a support mechanism to administrative officers and university committees regarding operational studies and data.
