Research Agenda and Publication
The university serves as a knowledge hub for its clients and the Maritime and Shipping
sectors in the Caribbean. The unit supports academic writing and publication through
research activities and publishes the university's journal - The International Journal of
Maritime Themes. Additionally, the unit is in the process of establishing a new journal
with Emerald Ingenta. The unit coordinates and plans the bi-annual Industry/Academic
Conference. The conference originally started locally but has expanded internationally.
The Senior Research Officer
The Senior Research Officer provides professional expertise in research methodology,
design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings to support
university-wide faculty members, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. The
Call for Papers is dispatched by the Senior Research Officer who receives submissions,
conducts a preliminary review to ensure conformity to International Journal and
Maritime Technology (IJMT) standards, and issues notification of acceptance and/or
rejection of paper to would-be authors. As a member of the Deputy to the President's office,
the Senior Research Officer is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency and
effectiveness of the university's research agenda, creating policies that govern research,
and fostering the growth of local and international research collaborations.
Additionally, the Senior Research Officer has the opportunity to play a significant role
in the development, management, and reporting of CMU-approved research projects as
agreed upon with the Deputy to the President.
The Research Officer
The Research Officer provides professional expertise in research methodology, design,
data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings to support
university-wide faculty members, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. The
Research Officer is a serving member of the Office of the Deputy to the President and
is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness of the research
agenda of the university.
